Kuza Asset Management Kuza Shariah Momentum Special Fund
Islamic Investing in Isiolo
A growth-oriented Shariah special fund from CMA- and RBA-licensed Kuza Asset Management, investing in halal businesses and securities across local and offshore equities, IPOs, REITs and sukuk. Inception September 2023; minimum KES 100,000 with KES 50,000 top-ups, 2.0% annual management fee, 6-month lock-in, benchmarked against an absolute 12.0% p.a. Published profit rate was 8.79% as of 30 September 2025, with AUM of just KES 2.46 million at the same date, trustee Co-operative Bank and custodian KCB (kuzaasset.com/products/shariah-momentum and kuza.africa product pages, accessed 2026-08-06).
Kuza's Shariah Momentum fund is the right idea at the wrong size. The mandate (halal equities plus sukuk with offshore reach) fills a real gap below Mansa-X Shariah's fee stack, and Kuza publishes its numbers honestly, including an AUM that rounds to zero. At KES 2.46 million the fund cannot yet be what its literature describes, and a sub-benchmark 8.79% will not attract the inflows to fix that. Watch it: if AUM crosses a few hundred million this becomes the value option for halal growth. Today it is a speculative allocation to a manager, not a portfolio.
Pros
- One of only two live Shariah growth mandates in Kenya (with Mansa-X Shariah)
- Transparent fact table including its own weak AUM, honest disclosure
- Standard 2% fee without performance fees, cheaper than Mansa-X Shariah
Cons
- KES 2.46m AUM (Sept 2025) is sub-scale; diversification and viability risk
- No named Shariah oversight or methodology
- Trailing its 12% absolute benchmark (8.79% last published)
- KES 100,000 entry with a 6-month lock

Kuza Asset Management in Isiolo
Kuza Asset Management's Kuza Shariah Momentum Special Fund is accessible to investors in Isiolo, structured as Shariah-screened growth fund (equities, sukuk, REITs, IPOs): Kenya's Shariah funds are national digital products reached by app, USSD, and M-PESA, so county matters less than fees and governance. Minimum investment: KES 100,000 (top-up KES 50,000). Kuza Asset Management serves customers across Kenya, so Isiolo residents have full access to this product subject to the eligibility requirements above.
Our Take on Kuza Asset Management
Kuza's Shariah Momentum fund is a well-designed idea that has not yet found its market: a diversified halal growth mandate at a reasonable 2% flat fee, undermined by an AUM of KES 2.46 million that makes the published strategy notional rather than actual. Kuza deserves credit for publishing the unflattering numbers. Until assets reach a level where the fund can actually hold the equities, sukuk and REITs its literature describes, this is a watchlist product rather than a portfolio cornerstone.

Financing Structure
A CMA-regulated special fund with a Shariah-restricted mandate: investments limited to halal businesses and securities across local and offshore equities, IPOs, REITs and sukuk, benchmarked to an absolute 12% p.a. The manager charges a flat 2% p.a. with no performance fee. No Shariah governance layer (board or advisor) is disclosed; screening is done in-house by the manager.
In-Depth Analysis
Kuza Asset Management is a Nairobi fund manager licensed by both the CMA and the RBA, running money market, fixed income and momentum funds plus retirement products. In September 2023 it launched the Kuza Shariah Momentum Special Fund, a Shariah-adherent variant of its conventional Momentum strategy, with a mandate covering halal businesses and securities across Kenyan and offshore equities, IPOs, REITs and sukuk.
The design is sensible: KES 100,000 minimum, KES 50,000 top-ups, a flat 2% p.a. management fee with no performance fee, and a 6-month lock-in, benchmarked to an absolute 12% return. That prices it well under SIB's Mansa-X Shariah (5% p.a. plus performance fee), the only other halal growth mandate in the country.
Execution is where the story breaks down. Kuza's own published fund facts (which it deserves credit for publishing) show AUM of KES 2.46 million as of 30 September 2025, two years after inception, with a profit rate of 8.79% against the 12% absolute benchmark. At that size the fund cannot meaningfully hold a diversified book of equities, REITs and sukuk; it is a strategy waiting for capital. No Shariah board, advisor or screening methodology is published on kuzaasset.com, kuza.africa or the products PDF, so compliance is self-declared, as with most of the Kenyan shelf.
The rational read: Kuza Shariah Momentum is worth tracking, not yet worth anchoring a portfolio to. If AUM grows to a level where the mandate is implementable and Kuza names a Shariah advisor, it becomes the value option in Kenyan halal growth investing.

How Kuza Asset Management Compares
The only direct comparator is SIB Najah's Mansa-X Shariah Special Fund, and the contrast is stark: Mansa-X has roughly 1,400 times the AUM, a named three-scholar board and a track record, but charges 5% p.a. plus a performance fee against Kuza's flat 2%. On paper Kuza is the value option; in practice the AUM gap means Mansa-X is the only implemented halal growth strategy in Kenya today. Income-focused savers should compare Etica or Ziidi instead, which serve a different need at far lower minimums.
The implemented halal growth option: vastly larger, board-governed, but 5% p.a. plus performance fee.
Halal income rather than growth, from KES 100 with instant liquidity.
Bottom Line
A fairly priced halal growth fund that is still too small to be real: KES 2.46 million in assets cannot hold the portfolio the brochure describes. Watch the fund facts; if scale arrives and a Shariah advisor is named, Kuza becomes the value play in Kenyan halal growth investing.

No Shariah board, advisor or certifier is named on kuzaasset.com, kuza.africa or the product offering PDF for the Shariah Momentum Special Fund. The compliance claim rests on the stated mandate of investing exclusively per Shariah principles across halal equities, IPOs, REITs and sukuk (accessed 2026-08-06).

Why It's Halal
The mandate is explicitly restricted to Shariah-adherent investments (halal businesses, sukuk, screened equities), distinguishing it from the conventional Kuza Momentum fund with which it shares mechanics. Caveats are significant: Kuza publishes no Shariah board, advisor or screening methodology for the fund, the AUM of KES 2.46 million (September 2025) means the portfolio can hardly be diversified as described, and the fund missed its absolute 12% benchmark (8.79% profit) in the last published period (accessed 2026-08-06).
